Spider Veins

Medical grade options for effective laser & IPL spider vein & telangiectasia treatment

Spider Veins & Telangiectasia Treatment

Facial red veins, spider veins or telangiectasia are tiny blood vessels (capillaries) which run close to the skin’s surface. They look like thin red or occasionally purple or blue threads that often occur around the nose, across the cheeks and chin. The resulting red, web-shaped appearance gives them their common name, spider veins. Vascular lesions emerge when the blood vessels become enlarged which causes the veins to appear broken.

At The Lynton Clinic, we offer a targeted solution for the clearance of red veins. (See also treatment for broken capillaries & vessels.)

Red veins are caused by overexposure to the sun, drastic changes in weather, changes in pressure, excessive alcohol consumption, environmental irritants, rosacea, hormonal changes, or simply genetics. Depending on the type of vessel we may choose to treat with advanced medical-grade IPL or utilise Nd: YAG. Following a thorough consultation, we will choose the best technology for your treatment.

Key Facts:

  1. Spider veins can occur even if you’re young
  2. The most typical cause of unwanted facial veins is the normal thinning of skin that comes with age.
  3. Women are more commonly affected than men
  4. Heredity and genetics are a common cause of facial veins

FAQs

How does the treatment work?

Light energy is applied to the skin where it is readily absorbed by blood vessels, heating them to a point where they are destroyed. Following treatment, the vessels quickly clear as they are reabsorbed by the body, leaving little or no trace of the original lesion.

Which types of veins can be treated?

Most red skin lesions, including facial thread veins, rosacea, spider naevi, and port wine stains, can be treated very successfully. Depending on the lesions, leg vessels can also respond well to treatment.

How is the treatment carried out?

The light applicator is placed on the skin and
a short pulse of light is released. The applicator is moved to the neighbouring area and the process is repeated until the entire area is treated. During treatment, protective eyewear will be provided.

Am I suitable for treatment?

Treatment is suitable for most people. Best results are obtained for those with fair skin, and there is less chance of side effects.

How does the treatment feel?

Treatment is mildly uncomfortable but there is no need for anaesthesia and the procedure is actually quite quick. Sensations vary but most describe it as a very quick hot pin prick.

Are there any side effects?

After treatment the area may feel warm for a few hours. Rarely, some delicate skin areas such as the cheeks or décolleté can be red and slightly swollen for up to 48 hours. Though very rare, there is a chance a small blister may form and there could be temporary lightening or darkening of the skin.

How long does each treatment take?

Treatments typically take from 15 to 45 minutes, depending on the type and size of lesion.

How many treatments are necessary?

Typically 3 to 5 treatments are needed for optimum results, though small lesions may clear in just a single session. Repeat treatments are spaced every 4 to 6 weeks.

What is the consultation procedure?

Prior to treatment you must fi rst undergo a consultation where details about your medical history are obtained in order to confirm suitability. Before proceeding you will be asked to sign a consent form and undergo a test patch.

Customer Testimonials

Excellent service as usual. The staff are not only knowledgeable and skilled in their practice but also very friendly and accommodating.

Gary, Oldham

I have been going to Lynton Clinic now for a couple of years. I guess something that could be considered quite a daunting experience is actually quite the opposite.... Kirsty is very professional and knowledgable about the various different treatments on offer. I feel as though real advice is given, and appropriate recommendations are made. For me there is no focus on pushing sales or further treatments. On top of the excellent level of professionalism is an air of warmth and friendliness. This starts from the moment you walk through the door, greeted by Emma with a friendly smile and a nice hot cup of coffee! If you are considering laser treatment I cannot recommend Lynton Clinic enough!! Steve B

Kirsty was very knowledgable and informative re treatments and products. I enjoyed the treatment and look forward to achieving results that I’ve discussed with Kirsty, she was not pushy in anyway and I feel  confident that The Lynton clinic can help me with my skin care.

The lynton clinic is great. The staff are very informative and friendly. The treatments are fantastic and up to date. I would defiantly recommend the lynton clinic to anyone.

I am currently undergoing IPL (half face) treatment with Stacey to combat Rosacea. This follows targeted laser treatment on deeper thread veins on my face. Stacey is very professional, knowledgeable and kind. She makes you feel at ease. So far so good - I can't wait for the final result.

Always made to feel very welcome at the establishment from 1st arrival to leaving. Both Kirsty and the receptionist (unfortunately didn't catch her name) are very friendly and always professional. Good advice offered as always and looking forward to further visits.

I recommend laser hair removal at The Lynton Clinic as it has been a very positive experience for me with fantastic results. Kirsty fully explains what the treatment entails and carries it out with such professionalism that you know you are in good hands. I wouldn't go to any other clinic for treatment.

I finished my 3 C02 treatments in March and I am really pleased with the results.  I am in my mid 60s, so wasn’t expecting miracles!  It took another couple of months after the treatments finished before I really noticed an improvement  - the lines on my face have softened considerably and my skin is much brighter and clearer.  So many friends have told me how healthy I look but more importantly I feel much happier and confident. I am very impressed with the Lynton Clinic and Kirsty who did my treatments.
