LED Light Therapy at the Lynton Clinic, Cheshire
LED Light Therapy
LED Light Therapy was developed after tweLED lve years of research to harness the power of light to deliver safe, effective skin rejuvenation and wound healing treatments. It is a painless, totally natural treatment for a wide range of skin concerns including lines and wrinkles, general ageing, acne and photo damage. Whilst used within cosmetics it is also used in the medical field.
What is LED Light Therapy?
An LED light device uses Light Emitting Diodes, they emit a gentle light source which is then absorbed by the skin and will stimulate certain cells in the body. They are very gentle, but equally can be quite effective for certain conditions.
How do they work?
Essentially it is all about the cells being stimulated by light, just like if you lie in the sun or a sunbed the UV light will stimulate cells that produce pigment and you will get a tan. These devices do not use UV, they use much safer types of light. Depending on what is being treated the colour of light used will vary; blue light for example is commonly used for acne to kill the bacteria, red for collagen stimulation and infra-red for healing and reducing inflammation. Sometimes we may use more than one colour of light to get the best results for you. Many people have one at the end of a facial for simple relaxation and to give the skin a slight boost. People find the bright red light very good if they are suffering with SAD
What happens during a treatment?
You simply lie on a treatment couch with a pair of plastic eye shields on, the machine uses a canopy that is placed only a few centimetres away from the area and you will have 20 minutes of light on that area. If it’s the face we do a cleanse, and exfoliate before the light, and often a mask and small massage is incorporated to induce relaxation and further the results
How does it feel?
You feel virtually nothing, it’s what you see. The red and blue light can be observed even with googles and your eyes closed, many find the red light comforting like going on the beach on a sunny day.
How many do I need?
If you have a condition such as; acne, psoriasis, or you want collagen stimulation typically 6-8 treatments are required.
How often will I need to come in?
This will depend on what we are treating, for some it can be twice a week to start working towards once a week and possibly every other week.
When will I see the results?
Some people notice an instant freshening of the skin, especially when under the red light. But for most treatments and concerns the results are weeks later when the body has responded to the light. It can take weeks for collagen to grow or acne to visibly reduce.
Will I need maintenance?
Most probably for most skin concerns they have a tendency to re-flare and if it is collagen we are ever ageing. We advise to have one every 1-2 months for optimum results. Most people are very happy to do this and see it as there time to relax
